Trouver le bonheur à travers le Hygge

Finding happiness through Hygge

It's Sunday morning. You start the day by having your coffee and watching the light snow fall outside. You light two or three candles, wrapped in a blanket. On the agenda: pajama day with the family, chick flicks, and candy. At the end of the day, you open a good bottle and prepare a comfort food recipe for your friends who will be arriving soon, for whom you've organized a board game night. Hygge is about simple moments like these. I don't know about you, but I would take these moments every day.

Hygge what?

You might be wondering where I got that word from. I promise, I didn't invent it! Hygge (pronounced Hoo-ga) is a Danish lifestyle that combines "small pleasures of life," "cozy atmosphere," and "good company." It's also a survival guide for the cold and darkness that awaits us half the year...

How to incorporate it into your life

Candles, candles, and more candles. A cozy atmosphere is the basis of hygge. You need them everywhere and all the time. Remember to light them in the morning when you wake up to start your day gently.
One of the non-negotiable aspects of hygge is comfort. You must feel good and comfortable both in your clothes and in your environment. Beauty is not a criterion, so welcome to worn-out but oh-so-comfy sweatpants.
Share memorable moments with people you love. It seems there's a link between social relationships and happiness; it's therefore important sometimes to step out of your bubble to connect with your world.
Allow yourself to eat things that make you happy and have fun! Enjoy all the little pleasures that life offers us.

Be in the present moment, gratitude, and harmony. Take the time to appreciate every moment and live fully.

Prepare your ''hygge kit''

Why not create a small "survival kit" to help us get through a cozy winter? The idea is to make a box with lots of things that bring us joy. For example, we put in a candle, chocolate, something hot to drink (tea, hot chocolate, Bailey's...), a good book, a notebook to write our bucket list, a photo album from when we were little, etc. It doesn't really matter, as long as these are things that make you happy!

P.S. Do not use sparingly.

Hygge is therefore not just about preparing cozy days and eating pastries. It is a way of life that can be applied every day, summer and winter, indoors and outdoors. We can add a little touch to our stressful mornings, to our boring meetings, and to the chaos of daily life. Ultimately, it's just a way to find happiness in the little things in life.
